93 explorer 4x4 not working (SOF)

My friends 4x4 on his explorer isnt working. he has the push button junk with autohubs. The light goes on in the truck but not 4x4. he said it just stopped working one day with no apparrent signs of damage.

Since the light comes on, it might be engaging at the transfer case, which would mean the auto hubs are shot. Test it and tell us if it's not engaging at the wheel/hub or at the transfer case.

would you guess what happenned today boy? my friend decided to go really fast through a dirt road and the truck started clinking and such then the back wheels were hoppping up and down rolling backwards. The 4wd is now working but the truck is undriveable. whats this?? i was suggesting a broken U joint but it does it when just sitting in one place. the sound sounds like its the tranny but it will drive around still.
