I have a 1994 Ford Explorer 4.0 4x4 that I bought a few months ago. It had a few miles on it, but it had a good number on the window so I bought it. Before he sold it to me he told me that the 4x4 didnt work. I was ok with it because the price covered that. Anyway I decided to try it even though I knew it didnt work. When I press the 4x4 button I can see the altenator needle move slightly and you can hear the motor make a sound as if it is trying to engage something. But nothing lights up on the indicator for 4x4. Low Range does the same thing. I was wondering if anyone has had 4x4 problems with there explorers and had a simple solution for repairing it. I just dont wanna take it in if its something really simple to repair.
First gen 4X4 problems have been covered extensively in this forum. I would suggest that you do a search here and see what there is. Also, check out this site for help: http://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/tcase.html
