Rewiring Fuel gauge
I have an 83 E350, due to its age and wiring issues i have decided to rewire the fuel system. I purchased the fuel selector valve (fsv) and have wired the selector switch to it. I am about to wire the fuel gauge to the fsv but this is where my knowledge runs very thin. I taped into a wire from the back of the cluster and am set to hook it to the fsv. before i do this i was hoping you could give some insight. I checked the gauge itself with a double a battery and it works. i found the wires that go to the gauge with this same method of double a battery, I tapped into the positive side and was going to run straight to the fsv. I need to know if this is ok?

Welcome to FTE.
Attached is the factory wiring diagram from 1981, afaik yours is similar.
There are two configurations shown; one with the dual-tank stuff, the other without.
Write back if you have any more questions....

See if I have this right, the sending units get their juice from the selector switch?

The diagram is a little different in that my switch is just a toggle switch and the selector valve and solenoid have the wiring.

OK, let me see who else I can get to help.
My diagram is for a 1981 truck, one of the other guys here can hopefully come up with 1983 van stuff....

The van uses the same type toggle switch and components as the pickups.
The diagram shows all the circuits inside the toggle switch.
What engine did the E350 have? If it's a 460 it might have hot fuel handling, and that uses a different diagram and components.

He may be hinting that this is the setup his van is using. To the original poster; Does your gauge wiring go to the fuel switching valve?

The diagram seems to show a black/light-green wire feeding a noise suppressor and then the ICVR (cuts the voltage down to around 7V as I recall).
From there, to the printed circuit, to the gauges from there.
The sending units provide variable resistance to ground, making the gauges show higher or lower as the resistance changes.
