I refurbished the instrument cluster on my 76 Bronco. The fuel gauge shows empty no matter how much gas is in the tank (I tested the fuel gauge using a nine volt battery and got movement when connected to the battery). The previous owner replaced the dual tanks with one 23 gallon tank. The fuel selector lever (under the driver's seat) has been removed as well as the switch on the dash. All other gauges work fine. Just can't figure out the fuel gauge issue. Can anyone help?
First I would remover the wire on the sending unit on the tank and ground it. The fuel guage should tack-up and show full. If if doesn't, then your problem is in the line. If the guage shows full, then sender if bad.
The previous poster posted a link to a wiring diagram. If the line is bad you are going to have to trace it back and then find the problem. Start with a test light at the lead on the sender.... the test light should light up... and then at the guage... and so on.

Thanks!
If the gauge switch has been removed, the first place to check would be at the gauge and where the switch was mounted. The wiring may have not been connected properly with the switch removed.
Another common problem is the sender ground at the tank.
