I'm getting ready to do a little more upgrade work on my '82 300-6. It has about 20' of brittle plastic vacuum lines (color coded) that seems to break somewhere every time I look at it. I've been using electrical shrink tube (works great) to patch the lines each time they snap and I know I'll have some more with this go round. 'Anybody found a better way or good replacement? I'm thinkin maybe 1/8"aluminum tube but there sure are a lot of them...
I replaced all the vacuum lines on my engine during my OH. I found that everything directly exposed to engine heat was brittle but everything encapsulated in convoluted tubing was still resilient. I used the same stuff as Ford did (found it in 3' rolls at O'Reilly) but installed everything I could in the convoluted. The stuff that ran close to the headers I then wrapped in a heat reflective tape. Should last at least till the next OH.
Summit etc. has silicone vac line that I think would work well. I don't think it is any more expensive than the stuff I used. Might be an option for you.
Yep, I've been to Marshalltown quite a few times. O'Reillys is a chain parts store like Advance or Autozone. Northern Auto Parts online has the silicone tubing too.
