I am looking at getting an underdash a/c evap/blower setup from Hot Rod Air. Anybody use one of these, and are they any good? I don't want to throw my money away on this, and this looks cheaper and easier than putting stock a/c in the truck. I already have a condenser and compressor, so all that's left is the evap and accumulator.
I just finished putting in my HotRod Air in my 54. It was fairly easy and works great. I used the vacuum actuator model. It is a couple of hundred cheaper than the electric servo model, but it is harder to install because of all the vacuum lines. The next time I install one, I'm using the electric actuators. The only problem I had during the installation was that the ground wire iwas hidden in the back and the instructions neglected to mention the ground wire step. After I called the 1-800 number for help, the service guy immediately asked about the ground wire. Voalla! The unit works great. Good Luck, John
Jared,I am in the process of doing the same thing you want to do .I went with Old Air Products as I like the look of the underdash unit they sell.I just finished mounting the underdash unit, took about 4 hours and a lot of contorting but it looks good.I mounted the compressor on the passenger side of the motor and will install the condensor tomorrow. The quality is pretty good with Old Air Products, just my two cents worth. All I will have to do next week is take it to an AC shop and have them cut and crimp the hoses then charge the system.

Yeah, I was planning on putting the compressor in the same spot, down where the air pump used to be. I have a compressor off of my old Subaru, that thing still had functional a/c, and the dual belt pattern matches the one for the alternator. I was thinking about using the Hot Rod Air or Vintage Air system, but you are right, Old Air's system does look better.
