I have a 1997 Ford Explorer and I recently changed my belt tensioner and drive belt. When I got to the part of the project where I needed to change the belt I noticed there was some coolant residue around the thermostat housing. Thinking the O-ring had deteriorated I changed the thermostate and O-ring. After installing the thermostat and O-ring I poured antifreeze into the radiator it all began to leak out heavily near the back of the engine on the driver side. Anyone know what could be wrong?

I have a V-6 engine and I've never experienced any coolant loss before this. I had the intake gaskets changed in 2000. Do they normally last just 3 years?
