cruise control

On my 5.8-1983 f150 4X4 the cruise works but isn't smooth. runs like i'm pushing the coast button. would the problem be in the cruise control chain?

I don't have the adjustment procedure, but yes the linkage being too tight or too loose could be a problem. I would also make sure the throttle linkage is free and the cable to the gas pedal is not binding or too stiff.

Thank you...I've noticed the gas pedal requires a good amount of effort to push...I'll try that first.
