Cruise control harmful?

Cruise control harmful?
I just heard that if I use cruise control too much it will cause my accelerator pedal assy to develop a bad spot causing the pedal assy to not respond and the vehicle will only idle. Any truth to this? Never heard this one before so I thought I'd ask the experts.

The throttles are drive by wire. I don't see how using the cruise control would wear out the pedal assembly. Speed control is completly electronic now - no moving parts like diaphram canisters, cables, etc.
