Upper ball joints

I know there is a steering and suspension forum, but you guy's really seem to know your explorers inside and out.
I have a 99 Exp XLS 4.0 OHV (X code) 4wd auto. The mechanic informed me the upper needs to be replaced on the passenger side.
I been looking around the net at prices and got bewildered real quick. Prices from $20 to $80. Some seem to be as a unit with the control arm and others are joint only. I don't have the truck at home to look at, at the moment, but was wondering if the actual joint can be pressed in and out of the control arm, or is it maybe a solid peice for some models ?

If the control arm is factory original you shall have to change the whole assembly.

If it has been changed to an after market Control arm the Ball joint is separate and can be pressed out..... Philip
