I've got a 1993 F250, 460, 4X4, with a E4OD trans.....here's the problem. It was shifting really hard and slipping when it felt like it...no pattern. Took it to the trans shop and they said it's not in the tranny. Suggested a Computer.....Changed it and it shifted normal and no slipping....BUT when the Check engine light comes on it takes longer to shift, no slamming or slipping just winds up tighter. Could it be the sensor in the inst. cluster? Or anything else I am totally unaware of? About ready to pull my hair out.
No trans codes are coming up at all, before I changed the computer it would give me "no communication" when the light would come on. I've got an EGR not opening thats it.
Pull the VSS from the rear axle and clean it. Sometimes it gets gunked up with "stuff" from the rear axle. Not very technical terms, but you get my jest. I have seen VSS problems without ever tripping an error code. More often than not there is usually a report of erratic speedometer operation as well, but not always.
Changed the VSS, pulled the codes with key on engine off....got one for the coast solenoid...tryed a new cluster also since I had one.No change. Have noticed that its shifting up through the gears really fast after second gear. Plus it won't downshift from OD to third when you turn it off. Kinda strange....The old computer was a KA and I put a JB back into it. It helped the hard shift but maybe I need a KA to fully get the complete fix for the problem?
