Manual to Automatic....

I have a manual tranny in my 2000 f-250. But I would love to have an Automatic. Is it cost effective to do this or would I be better off just buying one? I love my truck and would like to keep her. What all is involved in this kind of project? money?

You're better off selling and buying another truck. There are changes in the programming, harnesses, driveline length, etc. Also, the floor pan / tunnel is different, so you have to modify your cab.

What engine do you have? Where you located?

you do know that 6-speed transmission are judged as lifetime item on the car, while automatics are time bombs?

I seem to recall reading here somewhere that the end of the crankshaft is machined differently for manuals and automatics. I don't know where I'd find that though.

Typically the crankshaft differences are a spacer in the end of it for an automatic and a pilot bearing for a manual.
