Trans Temp Guage going crazy.

Hi guys. I have a 2003 f250 6.0 4x4 crew cab. Last weekend the Trans temp gauge pegged full hot for no reason. It will now go crazy up and down, then back to normal. When it acts up it sets off the check gauge light and the tow haul light on the shifter flashes. Then it seems to shift a bit hard. Then will come back to normal and shift smooth as glass. I have taken the truck in and had the tranny flushed. I am guessing the Trans fluid temperature sensor has gone bad.

Any other suggestions what it might be? Possibly a short somewhere? Not sure if this is a common problem or if anyone has dealt with it before.

Any comments, suggestions, or help would be appreciated.
