Dentside spare tire
I have a 1978 F150 4x4 short bed and I am looking for a way to mount the spare tire where it use to be under the bed. I'm having a hard time finding the original brackets, bolts, nuts and etc. Is it possible to adapt a late model winch spare tire holder to a dentside without a lot of cutting and welding?

If I remember right that's where you're fuel tank is. I doubt you could build the winch kind and have it pull it up tight. Stock was just a bar that had a bolt on one side behind the drivers rear shock on the frame and the passenger side a kinda eye bolt on the frame just in front of the bumper that you tightened and pulled your spare up snug against the fuel tank. Hope that makes sense.
