Is it possible to raise the shift points on my AOD. On normal acceleration it upshifts too soon. It also goes into OD to soon, 42-44 MPH, so I leave it in drive a lot in town. It shifts good and firm on hard acceleration.

There are at least several companies that make shift kits which allow you to hold any gear as long as you want. Sounds like what you might be looking for. Im not trying to sell, but B&M and Transgo are two of them.
Good luck,
TransGo is the way to go. B&M makes shifters not shift kits.
Yes, it will raise your points to about:
1-2 @ 3200rpm
2-3 @ 2800rpm
3-4 @ 2600rpm or completely let foot off gas.
You can install less springs and get a slightly softer shift. DO NOT install it yourself, it took me like 10 hrs b/c my trans was dying and something was stuck in the valve body. A good trans shop will have it done for about $150.
You'll be very happy with it. I have put them in 2-AOD's and 1-4L60E (GM)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Nov-02 AT 11:23 AM (EST)]B&M make shift improver kits, regular shift kits and a transkit, which is to rebuild the whole trans. they also make converters
eden
the TV cable needs adjusting. It should shift into od at 50 MPH. Less than that and you can burn up your tranny. Check the TV cable pressure and adjust it if needed.
And yes it is true that B&M makes shift kits.... I have one in mine!
I know that B&M makes shift kits and converters. I've heard their converters suck and that the shift kits they make are crap. Like they don't work like they are supposed to, stuff breaks, etc.
TransGo ones don't always go with the rebuild. They sell performance kits and ones to rebuild the valve body so your trans doesn't take a dump again. One is the HD kit and the other is the PSK. TransGo does include pieces for when you do rebuild it you put them in.
I have about 40 K on my rebuilt tranny with the B&M shift kit and it has held up great. The engine has 340 HP so that should be a good test as far as durability!
Brett_D, I said it before and I will say it again, I love that truck of yours!
Now some questions for all. Does the B&M shift kit actually raise the shift points. I thought it didn't, only the firmness. Who sells TransGo kits and what do the cost?

Brett, I am glad it works out great for you. Someone I knew put one in a it didn't do a darn thing. I built an AOD that was good for about 650HP! Extra clutches, 2" OD band, aluminum 2-3 accum, "A" OD servo, etc. They can be built to last.
Summit Racing www.summitracing.com sells TransGo and B&M ones. TransGo are $110.
