I have a 94 F-350 7.3 4x4 Crewcab, and I by no means am a mechanic. What I'm trying to do is get to the clutch. I think it shattered on me. I've got all the shifters, driveshafts, slave cylinder, etc.... removed, and it's almost ready to be pulled. The problem I'm having is the top bell housing bolt or bolts. Is there just the one, or are there two? One I can clearly see, but can seem to get a good bite on it. Is there a trick to it that a novice like myself knows nothing about. Do I have to remove the turbo, exhaust, or anything else to get to it. Or will a swivel socket get the job done once the tranny is leaned down. Any help would be appreciated.
And browser crashed, so I get to type it all again. Hurrah!
IIRC, I used a deep well socket to get the top ones, cause it gives me the right extension for the swivel.
Just need a breaker bar a few 1/2 inch extensions and a 1/2 inch swivel joint plus the socket.
There are 2 bolts on the top.
Just feel up the bell housing for them, no need to take anything off like the turbo or starter.
Once you find them and cuss at them for a while while you figure out how to get them broke loose, you'll remember where they are.
You do have to take the down pipe out to get to the pass side ones.
So, if you have a stock down pipe, now is a good time to put in an after market one. It's waay easier to do it with the trans out.
I pulled the down pie on mine and was able to get the top bell housing bolts with a ratchet wrench from the top while I was there. Got tired of the thirty foot of extension, and swivel socket slinging off and hittin me in the gonads.
I wish Ida thought to change the down pipe too while I was there sooo listen to Tayln...your already there!!!
