Hey guys!!! I recently swapped motors for various reasons in my 97 7.3.. I was wondering if the idm needed to be reprogramed to the new motor.. The reason Im asking is .. It takes 15 to 20 seconds for the oil pressure gauge to respond and the truck to start. But then it idles ruff. After leting it warm up for a minute I go to drive it and it has no power even when pushed to the floor like it wont open up..I need some expert advice..Please any help would be grateful... Long live the 7.3 P.S The motor I put in it was also a 97 7.3 with 105,000 on it was said to run great when truck was hit in the side of the cab so the guy parted it out...Im just getting flustered..lol help
It would be the PCM that would have to be reprogrammed, if anything.
The oil pressure "gauge" responds to low pressure, created by the lube oil pump (aka LPOP). If it's taking that long to develop enough oil pressure to activate the "gauge", then I'd say your oil is low, or it's just old and thinned out. Or it's a lube oil pump issue.
Could be a number of things. Id put an aftermarket oil psi gauge on and also get access to a good scan tool to read your hpop ico and the ipr duty cycle while cranking.
And the problem was.... It helps when you figure out the problem, to post it since these threads are archived and newbies two years from now with the same problem can look at your thread and help himself with his problem...
