I am new to the '97-'03 F150 forum. Recently picked up a pretty decent '03 to replace my '97 F250 that was just about wore out.
Anyway, yesterday I had to get to work through some flash flooding that hit my city. Against my own better judgement I drove through a flooded downtown. Made it okay but a while later in the day I started running rough and the CEL came on. Code reader says P0302 (cylinder 2 miss).
I am assuming it is the coil on plug. But before I run out and buy parts I figure I will swap it with another as a check.
First question is - how are the cylinders numbered in these? It is the 4.6 V8.
Second question - is there anything I should try first before I mess with the coil? I don't think I was anywhere close to deep enough to injest water into the engine. Think it is just a short.
Remove coil 3. Third back from front on passenger side.
Use air to blow out the plug well deep location till it's dry.
Blow dry the boot inside and inspect for fault. Pin hole, split etc.
Use a good coating of grease inside the boot tip and re-install.
Good luck.
Well errrrr ya!
you know very well no one put's axle grease on modern ignition parts.
I am too new to this forum to be a smart azz I guess.
Got her running like new today. Tried the remove, blow dry, replace and it ran okay for a minute. Soon as it warmed up it threw the code again. Picked up a coil pack at NAPA and it runs beautifully again. Went back to NAPA and got another spare coil for future deep water adventures.
