I just had the steering box replaced on my F350 and I think they must have turned the wheel too far when the box was off. Now, when I turn far to the right I get a scraping noise from the steering wheel. Also, the overdrive light comes on but I can turn it off by wiggling the selector lever, ( very technical troubleshoot I know).
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Maybe the clock spring is turned too far?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, it did not do it until the steering box was replaced. The mechanic told me I would have to have the steering wheel centered when it was aligned because it was way off.
I heard the noise the first time I made a tight right turn.

Your "mechanic" needs to complete the job and align the truck. If he couldn't do an alignment, he shouldn't have done the work to replace the steering box. If a shop can't do the job correctly, they shouldn't do it halfway.
This is a well respected shop with all the amenities. However, not all shops come with an alignment rack large enough for our trucks. They have given me personal service above and beyond many times. Further, you don't have to do an alignment after changing the box, but I also put new tires on and wanted one as I do every time I put on new tires.
I think blanket statements without knowing the circumstances usually leave a lot to be desired.
As this is an open forum (sic), you can say what you want, however, I was looking for constructive input.

Try checking your cruise control to see if it works. If the clock is broke the cruise control won't work. Could the tire be rubbing when you turn to the right? Sounds like someone could have turned the steering too much with the steering box removed, a sure way to break the closk spring. Just my .02
Thanks for the reply Bob
It's not the tire. I can hear it right in the steering wheel when I'm not moving. I'm thinking that after 350K, this clock spring has been moved to a position where it is stressing like it has never had to before.
This theory is solely from my research on FTE. I have never seen a clock spring before.
I am hoping someone has had a similar experience and can tell me whats going on.
Otherwise, I will have to remove the wheel and have a look. I've got a bunch of the dash apart now as I am in the middle of the 650 dash mod.
Maybe I can fix the slack in the selector lever at the same time.
There's always something to do.
Thanks again.
