Need help with steering box

I have a 1990 f-150 4x4 that drifts all over the road. If the sterring wheel is divided into 12, like a clock I have about 1 hour of play in both directions before the truck will turn.

I turn to the right and strighten the wheel truck keeps turning, then I turn left but it oversteers and same patternt is repeated. I was on a clover leaf circle turning to the right, i left go of the wheel and instead of the truck going straight. It keep on turning around the cloverleaf (look ma no hands). Is there any adjustment in the box , to tighten up the steering or anything like that. The shaft into the box from steering wheel is tight and there is no play going into the box.

Smile Need help with steering box

I had excessive play in the steering on my 89 E-150. There is an adjustment screw with a locknut on top of the steering box which I tightened in 1/8 turn increments until I was satisfied with the steering. Worked great! Of course there are other things that can cause sloppy steering that should be checked before messing with the box, bearings, linkage, rag joint, etc.
As far as not returning to center, I had a 84 E-150 that acted like that, turned out the kingpins were all boogered up. I think a steering box can also cause that.
Dunno if any of that will apply to you, but there it is. Hope it helps.
