I had a brain storm this evening about a injector test trick a caterpillar tech showed me once and thought I would try it this evening it involves taking a non-contact infrared thermometer and checking each manifold port at idle " you have to do it quick before the manifold gets a hot all over" and the colder the engine the more time you have I have Two ports that are about 40-50 degrees diffrent than the other six. 2 and 5 are colder on mine no codes so I'm guessing stickage?
Step 1 of this procedure is in-line with your theory. I wouldn't go beyond step 1 because of the damage it would cause to your injectors running without fuel.
A cylinder balance test could be used to possibly confirm your findings...
My plans are to do a oil change saterday and put the rev-x to her and see if that helps they say it's a mirical oil then I'll send her to ford Monday for the injector balance test if the rev-x don't help her
That was the exact path I took... I tried RevX and moved to a 5w-40 synthetic. It helped smooth things out, but I ultimately had to replace my injectors. The dealer did diagnostics and gave me the results - that was hugely beneficial.
If i can get it running Better And get alittle more time out of the injectors mainly till i can get alittle more cash to change them ill be happy i know rhey normally start and go one at a time I've always use 15-40 rotella in all the diesels I've owned but I think I'm going to motorcraft this change and add the rev-x to each change if it is what I've heard everyone say it is also going to change the thermostat while I'm at it
got my truck apart for gaskets and studs and replaced all injectors to the tune of over 1800 dollars from ford. mine were sticking i used the rev-x once and it worked for a while but decided to just break down and fix it right
I picked up mine form Pensacola Diesel for right at $195 per... OEM reman
I could probly do them now at that price thanks for the info Do they have a web site? If I had to I could drive down the 5 hours and get them for that price
