How does the CCT work???
What is the 2nd part of the test doing or checking for? Does it individualize each cylinder?
Trying to better understand the test's function.
Thank you in advance!!
The buzz test, KOEO, kinda has 2 parts though. It buzzes all the injectors for a couple seconds then does each one individually in numerical order 1-8.
KOER CCT determines if all cylinders are contributing equally by shutting down each injector individually in numerical order too. A cylinder that doesn't effect the idle quality is considered weak and might give a code.
Did you get any codes at the end of the CCT test?
I've ran this test on engines that were running perfectly and got codes. Also, had the opposite happen, a rough running engine that didn't give a code....I don't rely on the CCT for this reason.
I've got an injector on the drivers side, I think the #8, that's giving me some problems. I've got a fast "slapping" sound when the engine is under a load. Just started out of the blue on Monday. I was able to pull the UVCH connection and the noise goes away. Tells me right there its an injector malfunctioning. Now just have to pull the valve cover to determine which one. (I am running a SD engine harness with only one connection per side now.)
The CCT seems to have 2 parts. The first one it seems to add fuel or something to each injector then the 2nd part take fuel away from it. Well the last cylinder/injector of the 1st part, the noise is extremely loud, whereas, it wasn't on the other 7 cylinders. I'm assuming from what you posted above, that it's the #8 that's tested last. It's not throwing any codes though, so not sure what's going on.
..........the idle does kick up a bit before the CCT starts dropping cylinders one at a time. It's been a while since I've performed a one.If this turns out to be a bad injector you'll be the first one that I know of that gained something from a CCT. I suspect a buzz test would tell you too if it's an electrical problem. Maybe it's something simple like a solenoid coming loose, wouldn't be the first time.
Yep it's #8. Here's the cylinder locations:
FRONT
2------1
4------3
6------5
8------7
FIREWALL
Time for stage 2's
The buzz test came back with no codes and all buzzed fine. Like I said above, when the CCT loads up the #8 (at least I think), the noise is very noticable. I knew what the cylinder order but wasn't sure if the CCT went down one bank (2,4,6,8) and then went to the other side. Or vice versa.
I talked to Cale at BTS this morning and he's positive it's an injector. Going to pull the valve cover tonight and unplug that specific injector to see if it stays or goes. I also asked him what could happen with the injector to cause it to sound like that. He said is best guess would be that it's leaking fuel down into the cylinder when it shouldn't be and causing piston slap. And that's the sound I'm hearing. He did stress to call Hypermax though and to not drive it very much until we figure out exactly what it is.
