9" help!

Hey guys,
Before I get to far, I also have this thread posted in the clutch, transmission, differential, axle and transfer case section. I'm also posting it here to hopefully get more traffic with some responses. So here it goes...

A couple months ago I bought an old mud truck for the axles(9"/D44). Someone did their own home brew rear disc brake conversion with D44 brackets and calipers and what look to be D44 front rotors. I fully disassembled the axle and got new wheel bearings to put on. When I pressed the bearings on they was no shaft left for a sealed and the mounting flange seams way to loose. I got the bearings from bronco graveyard(Ford 9 inch Set 20 Timken Wheel Bearing). If it matters it's a 31 spline out of a 79-79 f150. Here's a few pics to show what I'm talking about...

Axle that came out my current 9"...

Axle that has the newly pressed bearings....

Does this look right? As you can see I have no room for a seal. I did measure the metal spacer the best I could and it's about a 1/16th of an inch difference. Thanks for the help in advance! Also want to note this is going in a trail truck. It will see no road time, just some hard wheeling

The seal is part of the bearing when using the Set 20. The old style 9" had the sealed roller bearing with the seal inside the axle tube.

So that's how it's suppose to be? Install and run it?

With the early style ball bearing, the bearing is sealed and permanently lubricated. The seal is inboard of the bearing.
On the late "set 20" bearings, the bearing is lubricated by oil from the rear so the seal is outboard of the bearing.
