Does anyone make a tool to spread lead battery clamp jaws?

Yeah-I know this is a stupid question-but I have to ask it: Does anyone make a tool to spread OEM lead battery terminal clamp jaws? Many- a- time I can't get the terminal clamp to fully seat down on the battery terminal -especially on a new battery.

I don't want to mess up the lead clamp by using a screwdriver, ect. My truck is 20 years old-but I want to keep it nice looking under the hood. And buggered up lead clamps are an eyesore.

I visited the NAPA website-and didn't see any. I had never seen one of these spreaders until I saw the picture that XlT posted several minutes ago. I was convinced that there wasn't such an animal!

Thanks to all for a speedy response !

Yep, unless it's in the computer most parts "sales people" don't have a clue.. You might try finding a store that carries KD tools, then ask for a KD-204, maybe they could look that up!!!!!!

At one time some Ace Hardware stores carried "some" KD stuff.

Yeah-I am feeling somewhat sheepish now.I didnt see the NAPA spreaders when I looked at the NAPA site yesterday. Went thru 20 screens of battery supplies/tools without seeing them!

Seems that there are battery terminal spreaders everywhere. I have now seen several on Sears website-including the KDs mentioned by white 97 XLT.

Are the KDs American made?

I just use a 3/4 or so socket. Loosen the bolt and drive the cable onto the battery terminal. I know you shouldnt beat on the battery like that, but it works. Heavy duty snap ring pliers work also.
