my 2004 SD is starting to act up, its been in the mid 40's here for the past week and a half no and i can hear my power steering pump wining. And when i try to pull into a parking spot or back my trailer up the truck wont even turn. Ive read the post about flushing the fluid for a diesel but i have a 5.4, is it the same or different because i dont have hydro boost?
Hey Scaler on mine i just pulled the line off the cooler and drained it into a bucket that got 99 percent of the old fluid out. Then I refilled with synthetic atf. Hopefully that will help.
ive read where guys jack the front up and turn the wheel back on forth to push some out too?
Ill try this tomorrow, did you remove your front bumper first or did you add a piece of hose so it didnt get all over
No I didnt remove the bumper once you pull that line off the cooler it drains the cooler . the resivoir and the pump. And best of all doesnt make a mess. Just make sure you have a bucket under it..
what hose the top one on the cooler or the bottom one on the cooler? and when you remove it doesnt the fluid run out of the cooler and the other line all over the place?
I think I did the bottom one that way it drains the cooler too. The fluid is not under presure as long as you dont start the truck. Just put a bucket under it , it will only be a couple quarts.
I've never previously had this happen on a vehicle, but about a year ago I had a power steering whine that I tracked down to a loose and leaking nut on the brake lines. Just tightened it up and added fluid.
I'd throw a piece of clean cardboard under the driver's side firewall overnight and check for leaks.
