So Im changing my fluid tomm and have read the postd on here. Going to replace my external filter then drain my pan. Now the question. If I use the drain plug I will refill threw the dipstick the hole correct? and ... if i decided to replace the filter inside the pan I drain fluid threw the plug remove pan change filter and refill pan before it goes on? or refill threw dipstick hole? First time doing this I probably sound retarded but just want the most efficient way.
First, you don't need to change the internal filter. Rebuilds only. Secondly, drain the pan thru the drain plug, change external filter and then add 8 qts. of Mercon SP or LV. You should then be good to go. I do this every 10,000 miles or the external filter and a hot flush every 30,000 miles.
I like to drop the pan also...look for things that should not be there like chunks, pieces, etc. Wipe out the pan and remove, clean and replace the magnet that is stuck on the bottom interior of the pan. It only takes a few minutes and the pan gasket is reusable.
