I have an 85 F-150 351W 4bbl. It has a miss to it. Occasionally it will run fine. Starts easy hot or cold. Has new tune up (Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters). I put a new Holly 600 4bbl on it 2 months ago. It ran fine until about 2 weeks ago. It doesn't blow any smoke and it idles fine. When I'm accelerating, It shakes and misses like hell. When I purchased the truck, I was told that it has a new timing chain. I checked the timing and its right on the mark. I would appreciate it if anyone could offer some advice on how to correct this problem. Thanks!!

Sounds exactly like a major vacuum leak from the base of the carb or a large hose has come loose such as the brake booster hose. Have a great day. Broncomule
With the truck off, take the air cleaner off and while looking down the throat of the carb, push the throttle back. Do you have two strong streams of gas squirting in the carb?
I drove it for the first time in about a week yesterday. It was cutting out when I was on my way to work. On the way home, it ran great until I got about 3 miles away from home. I've checked inside the carb. I have 2 strong streams of gas running in.
It's going to be hard to figure out if it's fuel or ignition. If it only does it when pulling a hill, I would lean toward a fuel problem, like dirt in the gas tank or something clogged. Also wiggle the wiring around in the engine compartment to see if it will try to quit.
I had the exact same problem with my 85 351W. The problem was the ignition coil. I got an after market Accell Super Coil for $40 and never had a problem since.
Double check your fuel filter in the carb. If any rust or sediment got sucked into it enough fuel will get through to idle on but thats about it. My '74 360 did the same thing. Good Luck. Tim
