Resale value

I stopped by my commercial truck dealer Friday. Instead of putting up with them trying to sell me a new truck, I found out that they will not take 03-04 6.0s in on trade. Later models, they offer below wholesale book because they just do not want to deal with them. After talking for a while, we discussed adding an extended warranty to a 2007 6.0. That 3 year option was over $2,000- which I am guessing is less than I can change and oil cooler and EGR cooler for.

So- the short of it is, the 6.0 reputation is so bad that even a Ford dealer doesn't want them in trade?

Has this been the experience of others?

Not sure where you live, but I know in Texas they would love to take 6.0's on trade. A few months ago when I was looking, I couldn't find one anywhere. (im in Dallas and was even looking in Houston/san antonio/austin.) Multiple dealers said they couldn't keep them on the lot once they received one on trade. I ended up buying mine on a Monday when the guy traded it in the previous Friday.

last month I got a nice letter form the dealership asking me if I wanted to trade in my 06 6.0L on a new 2011 and they would give top value. since I just bought my 06 a few months back I took the bait and went in.

I would have accepted the $34K they were asking when I bought mine (I paid alot less than that) but when the "mystery" man in the back wrote down what they would give me, I chuckled ... $14K less that what they had just asked a few months ago. Talk about deprecation... well I let them keep their 2011 and took my perfectly OK '06 home.

When I was looking at the F150s, they had asked if I was going to do a trade in on my 6.0. You should have seen the look on his face when I said that I wasn't going to trade in. I had also received several calls before that asking if I wanted to trade in my 6.0 without me initiating anything.

You also have to remember that it looks good for a dealership to be moving inventory. Even if they have to suffer a little bit on the numbers game to get the sale. If the dealership that you are at doesn't want to deal with a 6.0 on a trade in then there must be something going on specifically at that dealership.

Got my 6.0 from the dealership. the original owner had just traded it in the weekend before. it was the trucks first weekend on the lot... they were surprised i was drooling over it but I think I got a good deal. IMHO its just be that particular dealership. maybey the floor managers a chicken-squirt.

I don't know much about who's buying and selling and for what price but I can say a big majority the 3/4 ton and up trucks I see on the road here in south Alabama are Super Duty Fords and the majority are earlier 6.0's. I do know when I bought mine more than a year ago (truck in my signature) I paid almost 7k LESS than what my credit union would have loaned on it. I bought from a private lot that had purchased it at auction in Georgia. Originally it had been bought new and lived all it's life in Biloxi Mississippi. Seems like a long trip to get to me but I'm glad it's here. No plans to sell anytime soon.

I bought my 04 f-350 srw for around $3,500k less than kbb or nada, needed tires but that was about it. I ended doing the oil cooler and egr delete. I am still in it less than private part or retail and I really like the truck.
