Im trying to get the fan clutch fan and the pulleys off of my 84 f250 with the 460 bought a Chilton manual but it's about worthless I've pulled every bolt I can find but I can't get it off
My diesel and I believe some of the six cylinder trucks take a special wrench and the fan clutch unscrews from the waterpump, and it's usually left hand thread. I am not sure about the 460, but if it comes off conventionally, you will need to find a place to pry and try to get it off. I would go to the trouble to buy or scrounge up some thick cardboard to cover the radiator, because if the fan suddenly lets loose, it's a very good chance it will fall into and damage the radiator.
The 460 has a fan that bolts to the back of the clutch in four places with a 7/16" head.
The spindle/flange of the fan clutch then bolts through the pulley onto the flange at the front of the pump.
One of those ratcheting combination wrenches helps a lot here. (Gearwrench type)
The funky nut that threads onto the snout of the water pump and needs a super big flat wrench is just for small blocks.
