I am looking at a 73 f100 4x4 w/a 429 that is backfiring when coming back down to idle after being revved up. it does not do it at idle. couldnt look at anything myself because owner has everything taken apart (springs and radiator are in passenger seat :-) what does that say?) anyhow, he claims to have done a tune up (spark plugs do look new) and timed it (which was the first question I asked him) and it still does it, any thoughts?
for $500 the price is right....especially for the motor and tranny combo thats in it..so any thoughts are helpful
Sir, freedom of speech is a right guaranteed by the first amendment in the United States Constitution. However, may I point out to you, since you obviously do not understand, the first amendment right only prohibits Congress from establishing laws that abridge the freedom of speech or the press. This website is not sanctioned by, or maintained by any branch of the United States Government, thus, your reference to the First Amendment and the right of free speech is misguided. Please refrain from referring to U.S. laws, most especially those promulgated in the United States Constitution, without understanding what it is they say first.
not to be an @$$ or anything, especially since i am not responding to the initial message first, but i dont see anything wrong with putting whatever you would like in you signature....i mean, does this now mean we cant put non FORD TRUCK related comments in our sigs? i mean i dont remember reading anything in the user agreement saying we had to keep our sigs to trucks....but anyway, didnt mean to vent, ive had a hell of a week and it aint stoppin now....icicle509, you may wanna try to see if the carb is too lean, or if you have timing issues, and not just initial. just my 2 cents
Hey I live up in Canada so whatever you guys think sounds alright by me eh. Anyways an exhuast backfire is caused by too rich of a mixture or an exhuast leak. This may be cured by a simple idle mixture adjustment, and in many cases with older vehicles, is normal as long as it is light. An exhuast leak will let in extra air into your ehxuast and combine with unburnt fuel to create a nice little explosion. No biggie.
Thanks for your replies on the carb/lean idea and the exhaust leak idea...I appreciate all that
I sent dennis a PM about my signature and he gave me an acceptable reason why...Ken posted something about our sigs being too long ETC.......rules are rules I guess
Thanks for the replies and support, any other ideas anyone?
