Automatic transmission shift point?
Bluegrass,
I am always amazed by the wealth of info in your posts. Thanks.
Changing the pump pressure will affect the upshift point as well in the olders AODs.
The general idea is not to upshift too early before the motor has enough torque to pull the weight.
I have a modified AOD valve body behind a KenneBell blower and with the torque it's such a pleasure to drive in OD without the usual down shift do the the huge torque available at low rpm.
As it is now with the trucks being heavy, upshift at 45 means the rpm is low and torque not very high in a small motor, so to much throttle will drop it back to third.
Look at your tach at 45 and see why.
The 4.6 only really begins to get with the show at about 2000 rpm.
Anything less than that, the throttle has to be very light to keep OD in.
Thanks for the explanation. While I have your attention, let me ask you a related question. I don't have tach on my 97 V6 4.2. I would like to get an aftermarket tach. I searched but found only for 99 and above, none for 97-98 with analog odometer/trip meter. Should I make another thread?
EDIT: Finally found the right post
