Whats the best place for the EGT probe? In the manifold, or the pipe after the turbo? my truck is a 1997 f250. any ideas? Im thinking after the turbo in the pipe.
Pre-turbo is the most accurate place to put the probe, as close to the cylinders as possible.
I have a Autometer gauge and it came with a weld in bung. I placed it in the up-pipe within an 1 inch of the connection of the manifold and up-pipe on the drivers side. Wasn't easy welding it in the there but I didn't want to drill and tap my manifold in case of cracks forming later.
Drill and tap the drivers side exhaust manifold. There is a little spot right at the rear of it before it turns up into the uppipe that is perfect to do this.
K Thanks For all answers, I put it right after the turbo, on the exhaust pipe. wasn't hard reads good. Ain't much difference between there and pre-turbo and manifold. Used a head laser to read the heat.

There won't be much difference in temp at idle or when you have low boost, but the temps can vary upwards of 400 degrees when loaded, high boost, hard accel. Here is a thread where someone tested it with 2 probes at the same time.
