Pre turbo pyro site.

Hi all, I know some have a preference to the manifold, but, I am doing up pipes. I will have a new exhaust inlet manifold in my hands tonight (two broken bolts, one broken "easy out", not enough PJ Blaster in the world).
Is there any reason not to drill and tap the manifold?
It is just too easy for me to do, and most of the how to articles assume everything is still bolted up.
I will plug hole for now, gauges can't happen for a couple of more weeks.

Thanks in advance.
Tom.

It works in either way. I'm a little confused with your terminology though. It usually goes in the driver's side exhaust manifold or the up-pipe. The collector at the turbo inlet has nothing to do with it. Here's where mine is:

Mine is in the up pipe about 2" from where it connects to the manifold. Same place as Joes above.

Thanks and good pic izzy. I will have to plug the hole for now, and not sure how well I can do that on the pipe itself. My reasoning is just easier to drill somewhere now with it all apart, and no worries about access or shavings, hence the thought of drilling the manifold part.
What helps the sender stay in the pipe? I wouldn't think there is much metal to thread?

There's plenty of metal in the up-pipe to tap. Mine has been there 4 years. If you do tap the up-pipe, don't run the tap all the way in. Once you get it in about 1/2 way, start trial fitting the adapter or plug.

And as far as the shavings, don't worry about it. Most of them fall out -- whatever is in will just blow out the turbo. All I did was drill, tap, install adapter & sensor, and start the truck. No worries...

Got mine in the drivers manifold, but like the other guys mentioned, the up pipe is a fine location too!

Mine is in the manifold too. Quick question, would it make sence to run 2 egt gauges one on each side to see if one side is running hot or cold? Thanks and sorry for the temp. hijack

It's cool. Good question. I can't afford one right now but would if I could.

There are a few guys running dual EGT gauges and probes. It would be kind of cool to see the difference, but in reality they should be really close as long as everything is working well.

That would be my point exactly, sometimes somethings going on that you dont know and dual gauges would help out, thanks for the response,
