scanner / diagnostic tool

I want to buy a scanner / code reader for my truck. i would like a scanner that will do most everything. I don't know much about them but i know the time will come when i need it.

I don't have a pile of cash but, if im going to buy one i want the best or close to it.
Im sure in its time it will pay for it's self..

What do you guys suggest ??

If you already have a laptop, spew the extra for the AE like Roland suggested.

The Scangauge is a great tool as well for the average person.

I like AE for it's data-logging, graphing, recording capabilities and the ability to monitor 9 inputs at a time. Plus with so many on FTE who have one advice about using it is always available. That common knowledge, common experience thing.

The areoforce is $249-$399 depending on if you want a single or dual gauge.

For $359 you can get the AE and do 10x as many things. The reason I like the AE is its on a laptop. Thats much easier to use in my opinion.

I have poor eyesight and need glasses for driving. I like that I can see the big live data displays on my laptop even while wearing my single focus driving glasses. I would have to wear bifocals or blended lenses to see a Scangauge or Aeroforce.

Getting old sucks, but it sure beats the alternative.

Plus you can use it on other vehicles as well. It pulls generic codes off of any vehicle and if you get the other expansions, you can read enhanced codes on on those makes too. I got the domestic bundle which covers ford, gm, and chrysler.

Very good point Trevor.

I used AE generic OBDII to clear the CEL on my Nissan that automatically came on at 70,001 miles. Not about to go to the dealer and get charged to clear the lamp. I expect I'll be doing the same at 90,001 miles.
