I recently noticed a vibration, the back end of the van just beings to shake
40mph - smooth as silk
50mph - very small, feels like a rough road
60mph - begin to feel it
70mph - really starts to shake, all the seats even begin to shake.
99% of the time at those speeds Im towing, and with the trailer it suppresses the vibration, but the other day I was on the freeway without the trailer and really felt it.
Has anyone had anything similar?
Im going to start by getting the tires rebalanced but, was wondering if anyone had something similar at those speeds. Searched old threads and people mentioned vibrating, but didn't really mention at what speeds they occurred.
Yep, at those speeds it usually is wheel balance. Stock wheels are typically hub centric, aftermarket may not be, and can be harder to balance. On aftermarkets, be aware of tape weights and where on the wheel they are placed. Try different shops for balancing, a road-force balance usually solves this one. Vibrations from 20mph through 40mph tend to be u-joint related, from 40mph through 60mph tend to be driveline related, 60mph and above tend to be wheel & tire related. Just a rule of thumb, but it usually fits.
Start with the cheep stuff, wheel balance. Next would be u-joints, check for play. Then look at driveline. If your driveline has a harmonic balancer on the output shaft near the trany, they can fail, causing a vib. Finally, driveshaft balance. I recently had a shop remove my failed balancer, install servicable u-joints, and balance the shaft all for $147. I had to pull and deliver the shaft, and be without my vehicle for a couple of days, but it was worth it.
