Hey guys,
I'll give a little background to start the ball rolling. A few months ago my brake booster went out in the truck(after driving it for 20mins or so the brakes would start to apply, front only though). For the time being, I disconnected the vacuum line, plugged it and problem solved. Come August I ran in the county fair, more specifically a late '70 Lincoln that had the hydroboost. I ended up wrecking the car but took the goodies out before scrapping it. Now that I got some free time I would like to install the hyrdoboost system.
Here's where my questions start. I'm assuming that the mount is not going to be the same along with the pushrod. Making a plate to adapt the new system would not be a problem, I have a welder and other tools to make something. My biggest concern is the hoses. I know the hoses are going to be long. Are there hoses that I can buy that'll work for a factory install? Can I get hoses made somewhere(i.e. local parts store?)? All the help I can get is much appreciated! Thanks a ton in advance!
By the way its a '79 F250 with a 460 and manual trans.
The hoses are probably going to have to be made and any hydraulic shop should be able to make them. I know that's what I'm going to have to do . I used a hydroboost out of a 2001 superduty
Have the shop bend the hydroboost side lines so they goes toward the driverside. The stock ones I bought were too short so it was easier to have the extensions made to get to the steering box. I wish I would have added a little extra length to tie them off to the inner fenderwell.
This is how mine turned out. Could have been a bit cleaner but good enough for the girls I go with.

Also, there was no need to modify or fab mounting plate or pushrod. At least in my case. If my memory is working, the master cylinder was stock for a 79 F250 and the hydro/PS pump and lines were all from late 90's F350's. My parts guy said most of those years had the same parts.
To the original post. Changing the routing of the lines will give you extra space on the engine side and if you ever put on tall valve covers this swap is a necessity. I dont think I could have ever got the stock diaphram booster in there.
I wouldnt use the lincoln old crap hydroboost it will be nothing but problems I bet. Get a 99 and up one from a superduty. To mount mine I made a simple 3/8 plate with threaded holes to save the hassle of running bolts with a partner holding the nut on the inside. Weld the plate to the firewall

I would love to use the newer superduty hydroboost but I already have the Lincoln stuff from my demo car. I know it worked well when it was in the car. I figure a new booster will cost about the same as new lines so I want to try this first being I haul a lot with this truck!
Thanks for the information about the plate! How big of plate did you use? I know the firewall sees a lot of pressure from braking so I would think a larger plate would be needed to prevent the firewall from ripping.

Manual trans not offered w/a 460 until 1983, ditto 4WD.
I don't know where that confused face came from?! I know for sure it was a 4oo/np435 truck from the factory.
