I have a 93 F-250 7.3 Diesel and I was wondering how much should I turn up my injection pump? I really want to blow some smoke but I don't want to ruin my motor.. Any suggestions????
Well first off blowing a bunch of smoke out is not a good thing. Some black smoke under hard exceleration or under a load is fine but if you're "rolling coal" all the time then you're just wasting fuel and probably running some high exhaust temps. If you don't have a pyrometer, don't mess with it until you get one unless you want to replace some melted pistons. Once you have a pyrometer, I would start out with one flat and see how you're exhaust temps do. A flat is basically turning the hex wrench one "flat side" at a time. You would probably be okay with 2 or maybe 3 flats but I wouldn't risk it without a pyrometer.
Nope not hard. Just drill and tap your driver's side exhaust manifold behind the #8 cylinder for your probe then just hook up the electronics. I have mounted the probe in the down pipe about an inch from the turbo outlet but if you do that you can add about 200-400 degrees to what your pyro is reading at any given time.
