well got my pump today will try to get it on tonight, ill prob use a power steering pulley puller anyone have any tips or tricks to replacement or will it be as easy as i think it will?
No tricks, just don't mess up pulley when pulling it. Nobody has those at all anymore. Took me a couple days of calling people and searching online to get one after I messed mine up. DO NOT use a gear puller. Use the puller that locks a collar around the center lip.
installing the pulley is best done with the same tool you use for installing a PS pump pulley, it threads into the end of the shaft and presses the pulley on while you wrench down the nut with your impact. be aware of how deep to put the pulley, as you can go too far.
if you don't have access to the special tool, it may be possible with a standard bolt, washers, and nut, but would be a PITA, better to get the right tool
3/8 bolt, nut and washer works. You'll need a pretty thick washer and a bolt that has threads going far enough up the bolt to reach the hole in the pump. Usually ps pumps come with a bolt to press the pulley back on, the vac pump might also. One time I wasnt paying attention and started the pulley on backwards... dont do that, there's no way to get a puller on it to remove it!!
It shouldnt bleed off at all so you have a small leak in the booster or a bad check valve. Mine bleeds off but doesnt take all night... I am not too concerned about it though.
I got the new pulley on. I tried it with a bolt and washer but was having a hard time keeping the pulley from turning so I went and spent 25 bucks on a power steering pulley tool and it was money well spent, made the job so much easier! Usually I have found that there is no substitute for the right tool and this was no exception.
ya ive never seen it either. it has to air line hookups in the bed, if you unhook one you can hear the vacuum pressure. also inside the cab it has the vacuum gauge and a "T" handle if properly working i assume to manually apply trailer brakes? if i find some ambition ill snap some photos.
