Hi, I was wondering if the 4x4 setup from an 85 F-250 would be able to fit on a 1979 F-250 custom. I would like to convert it to 4x4 and can get the parts for free.
What I need to know:
Will the transfer case, driveshafts, and axles work on the 79? The donor truck has a dana 60 front axle with manual lockouts. Would I be better off using the stock 9" rear end or should I put the other dana 60 on the back?
If anyone has any answers, or any articles and places I can try to find out this information needed. I would appreciate it.
IMHO,
Unless you have full knowledge of what to do,All the tools to do it,Plus a boat load of money to back it up>
It isn't worth trying to convert a 2x4 to a 4x4.
Just buy the right 4x4 for your wants & needs instead.
Alright, what if I went to a junkyard, bought a rolling chassis with no motor and tranny, and swapped the body and the rest of it onto it? I need a truck to pull farm wagons and maybe the straight 6 will sufface with 2wd, I need traction, but I don't want to pass up the 400 dollar deal. The 80's F-250's just didn't look as good IMHO.
