Dana 60 swap

I'm wanting to swap a Dana 60 in my 95 F250. I was wanting to go with a ball joint axle so I can keep my factory brake setup. Then I was wondering if the 95-97 style brakes can be adapted to a kingpin style axle. I don't need a 60, but I'm tired of the poor tire life of the TTB setup, and I also want to do a RSK on it to improve the ride, which you can't do with a TTB setup. Any info on the brake setup would be helpful as there doesn't seem to be any ball joint axles for sale locally.

I did this swap last year on my '95 F-150. I hooked up the brake lines to the existing brake assemblies of the Dana 60, changed my master cylinder from a 1-1/16" to a 1-1/4" and it works great.

The Dana 60 axle came out of a '93 F-350.

I have 93 ford f-250 and I just swapped out the original front axle for a dana 60 kingpin GREAT IDEA really. It saves my tires like you wouldn't believe and almost zero maintenance and for the every day driver slash, work, weekend mud truck, ranch truck or what ever it is that you do with your truck, its bullet proof. I was able to remove the automatic hubs and rotors that came with the 1991 dana 60 and in turn use the rotors and manual hubs that where on the dana 50 ttb that was originally on the truck along with the brake lines and calipers that where already on the truck.
The only thing that I encountered was that i used the leaf springs that i already had on the truck which work but only with the help of a set of add-a-leaf's that I got off a one ton which in turn make it ride like a tank feeling every bump in the road and turning every speed bump into ramp that will just launch the front of my truck off the ground if I'm not creepy crawling over them anybody have any knowledge on how i can fix this bumpy ride

Put a set of F350 front springs on it and it will ride much better. TTB springs flex differently and only work like a normal spring when on a TTB. Been there, done that. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post13742112
Check out Encho's links, too.

I have just one more question for you guys. I have to swap out my rear axle and the one that I have is out of a 91 one ton now we get to my final question and that is if you pulled off the rear diff cover and the fluids where still looking good as in clean and no shaving kinda good ( and yes i will drain all the old fluids out and put in fresh stuff in ) and then pulled the caps off the ends of the axle and pulled the axle shafts out and if everything looked good nothing obviously wrong would you feel safe to say that it would be ok to then install aside from the braking components those ALL WILL BE REPLACED. oh and thanks again for the help guys.

Being able to use your D50 calipers is a plus because you can spend a weekend prior to your swap cleaning up your calipers, replace if you want, and changing your brake lines. Longer if you plan on a lift, just putting new ones much less an upgrade is a good idea too. And a good brake fluid flush and bleeding. Lets you do all of this without rushing through it during the swap.

will any pre 97 one ton front leaf springs fit under a 93 f-250 that has dana 60 kingpin under it and still use the same mounting brackets that the original leaf springs are using

I have to swap out my rear axle and the one that I have is out of a 91 one ton if you pulled off the rear diff cover and the fluids where still looking good as in clean and no shavings kinda good (and yes i will drain all the old fluids out and put in fresh stuff) and then pulled the axle shafts out and if everything looked good nothing obviously wrong would you feel safe to say that it would be ok to then install, aside from the braking components those ALL WILL BE REPLACED.

I know back to 87 will fit. Some paperwork shows 85 but I'm not certain.

If the diff is relatively clean inside and the bearings aren't rough I'd say run it.

I have put the 4" factory blocks in mine and only had to change the shocks. You may, however, need to shorten the front shaft for the D60.

Thanks for the advice.and yes as of right now my front drive shaft is 1" to long and I need to cut down and reweld back together but the 4" lift didn't pull the slip yoke to far out out the transfercase
