My 5.4 is having ignition troubles- put it on the scanner and it jumps around missing cylinders missing- 1 will miss then hole # 3 then 5- then 6 then 8 all over the board no pattern or anything. Going to start with new plugs first after that I suppose I'll go with a new set of cops. Unless anybody has any ideas or knows of something else to try or look for.
Pickup has 120,000 on it I put high performance cops and autolite plugs in about 10-15,000 miles ago.
is this happening at idle or under a load? if its at idle and you can get it to smooth out with a little bit of throttle, i have seen egr problems cause this..
Granatelli COP's- one was bad from the get go- so I'm wondering about these.
Does it under load- especially when it hits say 2nd gear and reverse is sometimes terrible like my 5.4 goes to a 2.7 instantly -
I've sort of ruled out the harness because it seems real "weather dependent".
I'm going to start with the plugs then move to the COPS- after that I really dont know.
Idles fine and comes out of it at higher rpms- say 2500 and up also does it in OD going down the highway- kick the OD out and it comes out of it- Or at least feels like it does-another reason I'm really thinking I'll end up with new COPS again.
What COPS should I look at getting this time- looks like EBAY has some of the best deals on them- I was thinking I would shy away from the real cheap ones and try to pick up OEM ones, I read somewhere that you should shy away from the high performance ones as well- from what I've read they cause more trouble then good??
