Intermittent Accelerator pedal

My 2004 has been having issue of the gas pedal being un responsive or very slow to respond when you press on it. Scary when pulling out into traffic. Basically it just stays at idle then it picks up signal and then works fine. Any ideas??

The go pedal is nothing but a rheostat.... you may want to replace it. Did you check for codes?

I know all about turbo lag. I am talking about a dead pedal. Last night I ran to the grocery store and while sitting at a traffic light light turned green . I push on throttle no response at all. I shut it off I then tried to restart and the it would not even start. Had to be towed back to the house by a neighbor. After getting home to show the wife. I put the key in and it fired right up like nothing is wrong. Going to rent scanner from Autozone this evening. Any ideas?

hooked up scanner to the truck tonight and no codes were stored??? I did talk to a ford diesel mechanic that worked for Sanderson ford in phx now he works for maricopa county on the counties fleet. he said he is familiar with the problem and thinks it is the wire loom chaffing issue. Great guy he is willing to drive across town on sunday to take a look at it for me.hope we can figure it out and as soon as we do i will be sure to post our findings,

If it does it often enough......

You need to monitor APPS1 APPS2, APPS3. APPS1 VOLTAGE STARTS HIGH AND GOES LOWER AS YOU STEP ON THROTTLE. APPS2 AND 3 START LOW AND GO HIGH AS YOU STEP ON THROTTLE. When you have one get out of whack the truck goes to idle. Whether its a wire or pedal assembly I cant tell you from here. APPS means accelerator pedal position sensor, fyi

just had the guy come by used his super duper snapon scanner found no codes FICM good 48 v, he did say a year ago a lady had same problem in a excursion and they chased the intermitent problem for days finally replaced on of the wiring harnesses and it fixed the problem due to a chaffing problem. that tricks the engine to think the key is off. so no signal from throttle pedal or. he said that its a pain to change out because it runs everywhere on the engine so he has to remove a ton of parts in order not to damage the new one installing so, i will do egr delete and oilcooler upgrade at sametime since it will be torn down that far.
