Question Holley power valve

How difficult is it to change the power valve in a Holley Double pumper. I am thinking about buying a truck that needs a new power valve. I have never worked on a carb in my life so I have no idea. I have heard that Holley carbs blow these often. Any info will help. Thanks!

Holley power valve

It's not hard. You'll need a new float bowl gasket, metering block gasket, and a new set of fuel transfer tube o-rings, if so equipped. You take out the four screws holding the float bowl on, and pull the float bowl off. If it hasn't been off in a while it might be kind of stuck on, just kind of work at it and it'll go. Then take the metering block off, if it didn't already fall off, and go grab your wrench (I forget the size, think its like 7/8" or 1" or something like that) and unscrew the old power valve. Then simply screw the new one in, making sure not to over-tighten, and re-assemble, with appropriate new gaskets and o-rings. Make sure to get the accelerator pump lever aligned right before installing the float bowl. It sounds like more work than it really is, really about a 10 minute job, if you have the right gaskets. Have fun!

Thanks Rusty70f100. That doesn't sound too bad. I just hope that is really all it needs.
