2005 E350 Van Advice
with little knowledge of the mysteries of engines and such. I did some googling that lead me to this forum. What I'm trying to find out is if the 2005 E350 van with 5.4 V8 Engine has aluminum heads, or spark plug issues, or something like that.....hoping you guys know what I'm talking about because I sure don't. (husband put me on this wild goose chase - like doing research in a foreign language)
We are considering purchasing a 2005 E350 Passenger van for our family to use on vacations pulling a trailer. I would appreciate any advice you can offer, as I fear my current vehicle, A 1991 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, is probably not the best choice for a family trip to Yellowstone.
Thank you so much for your help.
We will be glad to help.
First a few questions for you.
How many miles on the van?
How big a trailer?
Who are you buying from?
The plug question you are asking about could be a couple of things.
There was an issue with a plug possibly blowing out of its hole in early years of the 2 valve 5.4L. They fix the problem in the 3 valve.
Or there is a problem with the plugs breaking when being removed.
Both problems have fixes.
I'm not an engine expert but someone else will be able to tell you if you have the 2 or 3 valve motor.
To answer your questions:
How many miles on the van? We have looked at 2 so far. One had 75,000 miles on it, the other had 90,000 miles on it. What you think about mileage, what's too high? I'm trying to remain reasonable with price. I will also be using this vehicle as my daily driver, however, I work locally and put very few miles on my cars.
How big a trailer? We have a 24' 1979 Airstream with a dry weight of 3,800 pounds. I know it's not a heavy trailer, but we'd still like to go with overkill....had a bad experience.
Who are you buying from? We are in the market so that hasn't been decided but we have considered one from a human, another from a broker
. Again, any insight is appreciated. Thanks again for your time and help.
