Good Donor? VIN Decode

Hey all, Think I may have found my donor truck. Curious if someone could look at this VIN tag and tell me what engine is in there... or what should be I guess.

Looks like PS, PB and Auto... just what the doctor ordered.

I have a 65 shortbx with 352..

Ford F-150 Custom 1978

appreciated.

Matt

VIN: F15GNCF6920 / Production date: 06/78.

F15 = F150 2WD Pickup

G = 302 2V

N = Norfolk VA Assembly Plant.

CF6920 = 1978.

This is not a VIN "tag" (Warranty Plate). It's the Safety Standards Certification Label first used in 1970.

Has very limited info listed on it. No W/B, no: color/model/body/trans/axle or DSO codes...just what you see.

The front seat has been swapped, the wheels and step bumper are aftermarket.

Thank you sir! I've found several potential donors lately. one has a 360/C6, this one and another with 302/C4.

I like the 360/C6 one (72 if I remember correctly), but also tempted with the 302/C4. I've seen TON more aftermarket parts for the 302. Since I'm planning on a rebuild/upgrade and dress up on the drive train before putting it all in, 302 might provide more options. But then again, I've seen multiple posts with folks advising against the C4 in favor of C6.

tough part is doing all the research to make the best decision without missing the sale!

Since 1978 was the first year that Ford offered a 302/C6 combo in F100/150's (the C4 was also available), it could have a C6.

There is no way, however, to tell from the trans code on the Warranty Plate what A/T it has, because: 1965/78: Ford used the code of G for EVERY A/T.

One had to know which trans came with what engine. This changed in 1979, when the C4 & C6 finally received specific codes.

C4 = 11 trans pan bolt holes / C6 = 17 trans pan bolt holes.
