Having touble decoding 1970 F-250
Just purchased this truck to restore.I have figured out most of the things but I cant determine a few of the items. My tag says color is 3. Body is G4. Trans. is G which I determined is automatic,but which automatic was produced then? And finally the axle is 37. My only source has been Fordification.com.
Thanks,guys. What a cool site.

Having trouble decoding 1970 F250.
3 = See next line > >
G4 = No such BODY (interior trim) code listed for 1970. If the truck is a 1969 or 1971/72, the 3 exterior color is different than 1970.
Post the last 6 digits of the VIN which will determine the year, also take another look at that G4 code, it could be C4.
Ford used the letter G for all A/T's thru 1978. One had to know which A/T came with what engine.
If the engine is a 360 or 390 = C6. If a 240 or 300 I-6 = C4. Some 300's also came with C6's.
The C6 has 17 trans pan bolt holes, the pan is sorta shaped like Utah. The C4 has 11 trans pan bolt holes.
37 = (1966/72 F250) Dana 60 Rear Axle / 3.54-1 / non Limited Slip / 5,200 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
btw: Compare the VIN on the registration with what's listed on the Warranty Plate to see if they match.
People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they did not install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

It's a Custom or Sport Custom if the upper side mouldings are 1 1/2" wide.
If the upper side mouldings are 3 1/4" wide with black inserts, it's a Ranger. Same width with wood grain inserts = Ranger XLT.
COLOR code 3 = Light Green (1970).
There's no G or G4 BODY code listed for 1970. What color is the interior?

OK. The interior has a medium to dark green colored door panels and the seat is green vinyl around the perimeter and a tan-brown cloth on the seat and back contact areas. I was curious what that color is for the exterior. It almost appears to be like a dayglow yellow that you see on the construction safety gear they are using more readily now. Also,the door tag does match the vin#. It does have the 1 1/2`` wide molding. I am looking for some of the lower wide molding. I need the piece that goes over the toolbox door. Also, the 1 1/2`` piece that goes on the upper box passenger side.
Thanks.
Thanks.

LUCAS MOTOR CO. in Lucas KS has TWO = 785-525-7777. The mouldings came with the clips as original. Make sure the clips are in the package cuz if the package splits open, the clips can fall out.
No other Ford Dealer, no obsolete parts vendor has any.

C7TZ9929076C .. Storage Compartment Moulding-30 7/16" long / 1967/72 Custom/Sport Custom (Ranger/Ranger XLT is not the same) / Obsolete
No edit Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
There is no seat cover listed for any 1970 F100/350 that is green vinyl with a brown (tan) cloth insert.
According to the 1964/72 Ford truck parts catalog, Customs/Sport Customs did not have a cloth/vinyl combination, reserved for Ranger/Ranger XLT's only.
IMO, the seat is either from a later truck or has been reupholstered by someone who added the cloth inserts.

No luck on the molding. But after some more searching I have determined the truck is a sport custom explorer special with package b. It is the explorer green color, which almost appears yellow.I learned that color could only be had on that model. It will be redone in that same color. The G is the correct code for the interior,it stands for green Thanks for the help.

When I talked to Lucas they said they showed two also. He would check and call me back. After no return call and 3 more callbacks from me they said they didnt have it in stock.
In my research I have found the explorer special version was a mid year release for 1970 models, probably why the interior shows as 1971. Also looking for the camper special metal emblems that go on the side of the cowling. I will be calling those other dealers about the molding.
