after i got it back from the trans shop-
oil is leaking out the dipstick tube, were the upper tube mates with the block. any of you guys ever have is happen?
I believe there is an o-ring on the tube where it goes into the block. This o-ring may be shot or the tube itself could be rusted thru (this happened on mine last year). They are not hard to change. There is a bracket that comes across the passenger side valve cover that holds the tube in place. The tube is held to this by a small bolt (10mm head I think). remove it and gently twist and pull the tube out of the block. When it is out check it for rust thru and for the bad o-ring. The install is just the oppisite of removeal. lube up the o-ring and make sure that the area around the hole is clean before removeal and install.
thanks kenopuck
got the tube off--no o-ring ( were did it go)
going to replace the tube, but ford only part , closed on sunday
but i do have teflon tape & a box of o-rings ,
the real question i'm asking myself & now you is
is there pressure in the oil pan?
No pressure in the oil pan. But the oil will splash around near there. You should be able to put a new oil ring on there and stuff it back in for now. The fun part is guessing what size o-ring.
f250xlt; wound up giving in and bringing it to a trans shop, i just couldn't get myself to lay on that ground and pull it for a 7th time ,by myself
turns out the flexplate . had a hair crack, i was hard pressed to bebive that would even make a differance. but i got a new one anyway, new torque converter, rebuilt the pump, rebuilt the trans
thats when the trans shop guy said"" you know you got a hell of an oil leak ""
i just shook my head---wasn't leaking before
i sometimes wish i was the give-up type but i'm not
