They made a noticeable difference in power and a slight mpg improvement when I did it.

My mechanic who did my plugs recommended the auto-light double platinum (APP104). I don't sell very many of these E3 plugs at all. Seems the Boss Hoss guys love them in their bikes with the 350.

Ford modular engines prefer Motorcraft or Autolite spark plugs. If you change to e3 plugs and have a miss, I hope you have enough money left over to buy the Motorcraft or Autolite plugs. If you don't have a miss please report back here.

Do yourself and your wallet a favor and just get 10 Motorcraft SP479 plugs and done. The E3 is an overpriced chinesse made plug without a proven track records. Every one of these gimmick plugs I've tried didn't deliver. Remember the Splitfire plugs?

Bite your tongue! We all know Ford's track record with spark plugs... pray they just use a tried and true design for once!

While I've heard this sentiment before, I still don't understand it. How does an engine "prefer" a brand of spark plug?

And just to qualify where I'm coming from since I'm new here, I've been a motorcycle mechanic for about 18 years now, mostly working with HDs, currently working at a BMW specialist shop. I've built a few motors along the way, including the one in my Buell- 108rwhp & 112 lbs/ft out of a stock bore & stroke Sportster motor (1203cc aircooled pushrod Vtwin, for those that aren't familiar with HDs). I'd like to think I've got a decent grasp of what goes on inside a motor.

So, back to the question at hand. Does my V10 actually "prefer" one brand over another? If so, why?

Not every replacement plug made is an exact duplicate of the OE plug. I figure the ignition system was designed and tested with and the stock tune was done with the OE plugs. Bosch plugs have had a track record here on FTE for causing a poor running V10 vs the OE MC plugs or Autolite plugs. By all means your free to try a different plug if you want. I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it. I stick with NGK plugs for all my Yamahas also.

The short answer, apparently, is "yes". There have been numerous posts here from people who had put in new plugs only to develop a miss a short while later, particularly with Bosch plugs. Put in Motorcraft/Autolite plugs and the miss goes away.

And since the V10 plugs can be problematic to change, you don't want to do the job twice.....

Wise choice 2boys. This subject has been discussed here a lot. Do a search and read for yourself.

Not sure if the plugs in this previous posting were the same ones. I would stick with Motorcraft.
