Don't know how good it would go over seein as deisel is more expensive than regular gas nowadays. In NY reg. Gas is $1.75ish and Deisel is about $1.99-$2.15. I know the milegae is different but the cost of fuel may frighten some away. Except the die hard Deisel heads of course.
Gee, the price of diesel is outrageous, diesel engines rattle with a noise like the coming of The Four Horsemen, and fumes stink to high heaven, and the soot it puts off as it burns make it environmentally one of the worst fuels currently on the market.
So, what's the upside? Seriously, someone tell me. I've never had much to do with diesels, and my first thought is "why would ANYBODY want a diesel"?!?!
I think it's a good idea for the towing crowd. I don't think too many people WANT an Excursion, but sometimes they need the towing capacity.
I personally think that most SUVs (yes, including my Expedition) are too soft for towing heavy items (regardless of what the ads say).
I would prefer a more efficient gas engine, personally, but I think when Ford deep-sixes the Excursion, they should offer a diesel in the Expedition to fill the void.

I couldn't AGREE more. I live in Houston where every other pickup (and believe me there are plenty of pick-ups) is a freakin' diesel. When in traffic (and believe me, we've got traffic) one cannot roll his window down for all of the noxious diesel fumes. In fact, one cannot even run the outside air conditioning option when a diesel is anywhere near.
I've known many people who own diesels and don't ever tow nor do they have any intention of towing. They just buy them because they are loud and obnoxious...just like most of the people I know. Even more of a joke is the mileage argument. If one wants fuel mileage, buy a RAV4 or similar.
Geez, sounds like a bunch of left wing democrat liberal sissies in here! I wish i had an 'ol powerstroke in my expedition. Diesel is cheaper than gas here in Alaska

I call 'em like I see 'em. And I bet you voted for algore. I'll make sure and tell my buddy in Pearland to send some nasty 'ol Dodge fumes your way-- http://dieselpowerman.tripod.com/
Buzzard and Acamar do have a point - a diesel Expy would potentially cater to a whole new group of poseurs. Kinda like the "Cowboys" I went to high school with - they live in a suburb, like me, yet they look like they came right out of a western movie.
Iflyabeech - I don't think it's so much a political argument as it is a personal one. Diesel fumes do stink (ever driven behind a bus in a city? yuk) and there's a lot of fools here in Annapolis, MD, who drive jacked up diesel trucks without a trailer hitch and perfectly unmarred beds. Like I said, a Diesel Expy would be the ultimate I'm-a-surburbanite-redneck wagon.
I still think it would be great for people who frequently tow boats/trailers/etc.

good choice on the vote Matt, altough I wasn't referring to you. We call those who drive the "pretty boy trucks" city boys, among other things! They are the same type who would tie work boots up to their bumpers and drag them around to make the boots look like their owners knew how to work. To each his own I say. Also I say that diesel smells good!
If Ford ever decides to build a diesel Expedition I'll buy one. My 97 F350 with a Powerstroke easily gets 18 MPG, the best I've ever seen with my wifes Expedition is 13. Someone also stated that diesels can't be too good for the environment with the soot and all. I believe if you do some research you'll find that modern diesels are cleaner running than modern gas engines. I don't mean soot wise but actual pollutants that go into the air. As far as noise goes a little more insulation under the hood should take care of that. I think that someone else pointed out the puffed up diesels that will never see real work, well how many of us will ever take our Expy's out for some serious off-roading? We drive what we drive because we like what we drive.
Blow - Welcome to FTE and welcome to the Expedition forum! You do have a point - we drive what we like - that's how I accept the riceboys as being part of the circus of life.
I'm too big for an Explorer, so I went with the big dog.
On top of what you already said, who in their right mind is going to take an Expedition, F250 SD, H2, etc. off road? If you look in the off road mags, all the best rigs are mid 80's nissan pickups and such. You'd have to be a fool to take a newer Expy or SD offroad and ruin the nice sheetmetal!
