I hope to get some insight on some questions about my v-10. First some general info. 99 F350 dually. V10 auto. 178,000 miles. Recently I've been having power issues with my truck. Struggling to pull a 5000 lb camper small grades without it shifting down and running 3500 to 4000 on the tack, and still not pull well. The only noteable code I've been getting is for the pressure differitional switch hose plugged or disconnected. Now the story behind this about a year ago the original rubber hose came apart so I replaced it with any old rubber hose i have lying around. Now what happens is the 2 metal tubes coming from the exhaust that the rubber lines are on get hot enough that it crystalizes the hose untill it gets hard and brittel and brakes off.
Now should those lines get that hot to do this to a rubber line? I was told recently that the lines are made from a special rubber to resist the heat. Is this true?
So to give more info I recently took it to a mech to put a snap on analizler on it. He said there were no hidden codes and ran tests on the systems and found nothing. I had changed the fuel filter a day before going to see him and after blowing out the fuel of the old one it had a little weight to it, as if there was some crud in it. but to what extent I don't know.
So while at the shop we hooked up a fuel pressure guage and the numbers look ok. They were on the low side of the acceptable range but still within the range. ( i wish I would have checked before swapping the filter.)
We also check to cat by drilling a small hole in front of the cat and put a vacuum/fuel pressure guage to see if there is any pressure build up indicating the cat was plugging up. There was no pressure reading. So I'm assuming that the cat is still clear.
As a final note the truck starts fine, idles good, accelerates good, and overall runs good without pulling anything. The problem seems to be a loss of power under a load. I normally would be pulling a horse trailer with horses or roping steers.
Sorry this was long winded but just trying to get as much info out there. Thanks in advance.
